His name is Landon Hamilton, but to the angels and demons wrestling for control of our world he’s known simply as ‘diuscrucis’. He is the balancer, the great equalizer, a once mortal and former god who toes the line between good and evil to prevent the end of days...

In New York, a demon is slaughtering coeds at campuses around the city, taking the form of its victims and vanishing without a trace. At the same time in Nevada, a scientist with his own inexplicable supernatural talent has been spotted consorting with angels, working with them on a secret project that bridges the gap between science and faith.

While the two events appear unrelated on the surface, it isn’t long before Landon’s investigation leads him to one startling conclusion: the war between Heaven and Hell is evolving faster than he could have imagined, and the survival of mankind depends on his ability to make some of the hardest choices of his afterlife.

Enemies become allies and allies become enemies in this breakneck paced, action-packed mashup of urban fantasy, religious mythology, and pure adventure that are characteristic of the popular Divine series.

Balance: 10,000 Sales Celebration!

bookcover-balance.jpg

I did a Kindle Countdown deal in December, offering Balance for $0.99 for a week. The results of that offer were UNBELIEVABLE, pushing Balance to a high of #253 in the Amazon store, and #5 overall in Paranormal / Urban Fantasy and #7 overall in Epic Fantasy. All told, I sold over 3000 copies of Balance in December (and ~7500 books total), pushing it's sales count well past 10,000 copies, to ~11,600. As I had mentioned previously, I'm celebrating the achievement by giving away money, in the form of Amazon gift cards.

Bound - First Draft Finished!

bookcover-bound-small.jpg

It feels like it took me a really long time to write Bound. Maybe not a long time by the standards of other authors, but I generally go into a novel with a decent idea of what I want to write, and a laser focus on getting the ideas from my brain to the page. Bound is my fifth novel, the fourth in the Divine Series. It was also the hardest to write (pushing Balance to #2). Why was it so hard?

For one, it wraps up most of the threads that have been guiding the series to this point (note, I said this point. This isn't the last Divine book, just the last featuring the Beast). Ending an arc in a way that is satisfying to both yourself and (hopefully) the readers can be hard. I hope I've done a good job of it.

At slightly over 100,000 words, it's also the longest of the Divine books (Balance is 98k, Betrayal and Broken are closer to 90k). I never planned it that way, but the story wasn't finished, and so I kept going.

Finally, if you've read this post from October, you know that I struggled a bit with how I wanted this story to be told. Even after I had straightened out my direction, I still ended up cutting/rewriting over 10,000 words (on the first draft... so more cuts are sure to come).

All of that aside, I'm really proud of Bound, maybe even more so because I did shed some blood, sweat, and tears over it (okay, just some sweat). I think its a fitting end to the Beast arc, and I really hope you'll agree.

As for release date - I'm shooting for February 8, but it may come on the 15th. As always, I'll send an e-mail out to everyone on the mailing list once it's live on Amazon.

I hope you'll check it out!

Balance: 8000 copies sold!

I never imagined so many people would be reading my work. Thank you all for being a part of it, and for taking the time to lose yourself in the world of the Divine. Also, keep an eye out... I'll be launching a contest/giveaway when it hits 10,000 (it's not a matter of if, it's just a matter of when).

Thank you all again!

Betrayal (The Divine Book Two) - This One's for the Bears

As you may or may not be aware, I currently donate 10% of all of the royalties I receive from Balance (The Divine Book One) to the Humane Society of the United States (over $700 through this July). I don't do it as an incentive for people to buy my book, but because it's something I believe in, and I want to give back what I can. I'll be choosing charities for every book I publish, until I can't manage the list anymore, at which point I'll just send more to the ones I've already chosen. In any case, for Betrayal I've selected two charities, both of them involved with animal welfare, and more specifically for the cause of helping wild bears.  Why two? Because I promised my wife I would donate to the WSPA (warning, bear baiting is graphic), and because we also want to support Animals Asia, who are working to end the practice of bear bile farming. I will likely use the same charities for Book Three, to get them both up to 10%, but I didn't want to wait to start giving to both.

If you have a minute and a love of bears (or just hate to see any living thing suffer), please visit the sites and consider donating as well.

Betrayal will be available on Amazon in July.
